Council opens upgraded Toowoomba Waste Management Centre with new access road

It wasn’t all trucks and trash at today’s opening of Toowoomba Waste Management Centre’s major upgrade and new access road.

Toowoomba Regional Council’s Water and Waste portfolio leader, Cr Bill Cahill, was out on site to celebrate.

“It’s with great pleasure to open the upgraded Toowoomba Waste Management Centre,” Cr Cahill said.

“Toowoomba Regional Council, in collaboration with Nexus Delivery, has undertaken a project to ensure the access to the Toowoomba Waste Management Facility is fully integrated with the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing (TSRC) project,” Cr Cahill said.

Commercial users can now access the upgraded site from Hermitage Road, and utilise the new Mort Street Upgrade interchange. A new weighbridge and gatehouse have also been installed as part of the collaborative project with Nexus Delivery.

“The new weighbridge and gatehouse have been fitted with CCTV cameras enabling number plate recognition of vehicles entering and departing the site, Cr Cahill said.

“This CCTV technology enables Council to better utilise the landfill itself and monitor landfill operations in real-time.

“This technology is also used at the Greater Toowoomba Waste Facility at O’Mara Road, Wellcamp to help Council continue delivering world class waste disposal services,” Cr Cahill concluded.

The upgraded Toowoomba Waste Management Centre is open only for commercial customers in vehicles over 4.5T and Council’s kerbside waste collection vehicles.

The Toowoomba Waste Management Centre is open from 7.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday and 8.00am to 5.00pm Saturday and Sunday.
