Council amends library opening hours to meet community expectations

Toowoomba Region Library - selecting books

Four of Toowoomba Regional Council’s libraries will have new opening hours from Monday 30 October.

Library patrons who visit the Oakey, Pittsworth, Goombungee and John French (Crows Nest) libraries will see minor adjustments to library opening hours.

Community and Environmental Services Portfolio Leader, Councillor Joe Ramia said Council has been reviewing service levels to library users across the region for nearly two years and these changes will see the region’s libraries collectively open for an additional 11.5 hours.

“We know that our residents value their local library and these changes take in to account population of the local area, as well as local demand.”

“Council operates 13 libraries across the region with close to 600,000 visits across those facilities each year and latest figures showing that more than 1.1 million items are borrowed each year”.

“I encourage our residents, young and old to continue learning at our libraries and to get along to the hundreds of events that are organised by library staff each year,” Cr Ramia concluded.
