Milne Bay Aquatic Centre’s (MBAC) indoor pools will be closed for scheduled maintenance from Saturday June 30, due to reopen Monday July 23.
Community Development and Facilities portfolio leader Cr Geoff McDonald said the maintenance work will prolong the pools’ life and ensure the facilities stay in prime operational condition.
“Milne Bay Aquatic Centre is a fantastic facility to promote healthy lifestyles in our region,” Cr McDonald said.
“These maintenance works will ensure the facility remains in great condition for years to come.
“The works will include draining of the indoor pools for routine maintenance, deep cleaning, regrouting of tiled joints and cleaning of the air handling supply.
“MBAC’s gym, group fitness and crèche will remain open throughout the maintenance works.”
The outdoor pool is now closed for its yearly winter season.
Milne Bay Aquatic Centre had over 225,000 visitations during the last 12 months with patrons ranging from the very young to the elderly.
The centre hosted some 30 swimming carnivals ranging from primary school to high school to regional championships.
During the last 12 months, staff of the centre delivered water safety programs to over 800 school students throughout the region, 100 student and parents via the Downs Little Lifeguards, and engaged in the region’s local refugee community teaching over 30 adult’s water safety.
