Conservation and pest management

Man spraying prickly pear

Our Conservation and Pest Management team provide education and awareness programs as well as control weeds and feral pests on Council owned land and thoroughfares across our region. The team controls weeds along approximately 11,000 km of road network and conduct private property inspections throughout the 13,000 square km of land in the region.

Pest Management Plan

The Pest Management Plan outlines a 4 year strategy and annual action plans to implement identified priorities, with an annual review of action plans. There are currently no local laws for the control of pest animals and pest plants throughout the region.

On 1 July 2016, the Biosecurity Act 2014 replaced the Land Protection (Pest and Stock Route Management) Act 2002 for legislating the management of pest species in Queensland. While the legislation has changed, the Pest Management Plan is still current until the full review in 2018.
