Number of items able to be borrowed
Members may borrow a maximum of 15 items, this can be a combination of items such as books, audio cassettes or videos. A limit of five DVDs at any one time has been introduced.
Loan periods for library items
The general loan period is 28 days with the exception of DVD's which are on loan for seven days.
Borrowing without your library card
You may borrow using your library card or any photo ID. Please take care of your card and don't lend it to another person, as the owner of the card is responsible for items issued with it. If you lose your card, please notify the library immediately. A new card can be issued at the cost of $1.00 (inc.GST).
Changing home address
Ask for a change of address form the next time you are at your local library or call us on 4688 6670 and we can do it over the phone for you.
How to return books when the library is closed
All of our libraries have a facility which enables borrowed items to be returned out of hours.
Toowoomba Region Libraries are closed on Public Holidays and do not accept library material returns during these periods.
If library items are significantly overdue, we will either phone you at home or mail an overdue notice to you but the responsibility is always on you to return the books on time and in good condition.
If you fail to return the overdue items, the matter is referred to our finance branch who issue an account for the replacement cost of the books. Failure to return the books and pay the administration fee may result in legal action.
Accessing items from libraries we don't own
If you are a library member, we can attempt to find items in other libraries that we do not hold. We try the State Library of Queensland in Brisbane first and if they have the item there is no charge. However, if we do need to locate the item outside the State Library a fee will apply. We will check with you first to see if you would like us to try further before going outside of the State Library.
Loans may be renewed twice, provided that the item is not more than 21 days overdue and has not been reserved by another borrower.
You can renew an item yourself by logging into the library catalogue. Alternatively, loans that you wish to be renewed should be taken to the issues counter with the other items you wish to borrow and indicate to the staff which item(s) you wish to renew.
Renewals can also be made by telephone. If items are not overdue they may be renewed online by logging onto the catalogue using your ID (library barcode number) and PIN (last four digits of your phone number) to access your personal details . Please ensure you have the item(s) and your library card on hand.
You may reserve any item that is currently on loan to another borrower by asking at the Enquiries counter. Please bring your library card with you. You can also reserve items online using the library's catalogue.
When an item you have reserved is returned to the library, you will be advised by email, telephone or mail that the item is being held for you at the library for one week. There is no charge for this service.
