JUST ONE campaign - water safety

Along with local supporting businesses we have launched the JUST ONE campaign in early 2014 to educate the community that one action can save a life. This can simply be:

Every year since 1995 Royal Life Saving has produced a National Drowning Report. This report examines the factors that contribute to drowning deaths in Australia by examining who, where, when and how people have drowned in Australian waterways over the last year.

In Australia the rivers, creek, stream category was the aquatic location with the highest number of drowning deaths, followed by swimming pools and beaches.

People who can swim well can still drown. Contingencies such as supervision need to be in place. While safety in surf is a message many of us have been taught, pools and inland waterways can be just as dangerous.

To support the needs of our growing community the Downs Little Lifeguards program was introduced in November 2014 by Milne Bay Aquatic and Fitness Centre and supported by Royal Life Saving Society to implement an active and fun education program for children on the Downs.
