New Highfields library

Woman reading to child in Highfields Library

The Highfields Library project is an initiative to construct a library, customer service centre and community meeting facility in Highfields. The new facility will replace the existing temporary library which supports around 52,600 visitors each year.

It will be located on the corner of Balmoral Street north of O’Brien Road in the Highfields Cultural Precinct. The location will offer safe pedestrian connections between other community facilities in the precinct including the Highfields Cultural Centre and Highfields Fitness and Recreation Centre. In addition, the location is adjacent to the Charles and Motee Rogers Bushland Reserve which provides an opportunity for the facility’s design to embrace the unique natural setting, e.g. through outdoor reading areas.

The $1.5 million funding for 2019/20 will see the finalisation of the design of building and external roadworks, all development and building approvals as well the beginning of some roadwork construction. The Highfields Library project will deliver a modern purpose-built library, customer service centre and community meeting facility in Highfields.
