We are undertaking works to upgrade sections of Griffith Street to significantly help improve traffic flow to-and-from the Mort Street interchange and the New England Highway. Griffith Street will be upgraded from the Gowrie Creek Bridge to the New England Highway. There will be intersection upgrades at Goombungee Road and New England Highway.
The project will also include road lighting, significant drainage upgrades and landscaping. Services will be relocated, including the underground placement of power and a centre dual access turning lane will be implemented to provide safer access to properties.
Residents will be advised in advance of construction works and associated impacts. We are seeking to minimise disruptions wherever possible. Businesses will remain open during construction and residents are encouraged to support local traders.
The upgraded Griffith Street will improve traffic flow from the Second Range Crossing and will cater for future growth in Toowoomba’s transport network. We are working in partnership with the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) to deliver the Griffiths Street upgrade project as part of the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing Project. TMR has provided funding of $10.1 million for this project to ensure the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing integrates with our local road network.
