Summer Tunes 2018 schedule

Summer Tunes logo

Our Summer Tunes program provides free, live music at popular parks in the Toowoomba region and is a great way to relax with friends and family. Concerts feature local musicians from a variety of music genres and can be enjoyed on weekends throughout January and February. Bring some snacks, a picnic blanket and a hat and settle in for some downtime!

It also provides a great opportunity to view the summer blooms in these parks.

As these are all outdoor events, they are subject to weather conditions.

 

Toowoomba Summer Tunes (every Sunday from 7 January to 25 February)

Location: Children's play area

Time of program: 10am to noon

Theme: Children's capers

Free face painting for children will be offered every Sunday by Sparkles Face Painting

 

7 January

The Alison Bryant Quartet - The Alison Bryant Quartet features trumpet, drums, keyboard and bass producing a wide range of music from jazz to swing jazz, Latin and rock 'n' roll.

 

14 January

Garden City Country Music Club - The club will be showcasing its junior talent. The juniors range from 8 years to 17 years and perform a variety of genres, including country rock, bush ballads and vocals.

 

21 January

Sing Australia Toowoomba - Be entertained by a network of community singers performing popular songs and be prepared to sing along.

 

28 January

Julie Witney - Playing a range of well-known songs and tunes from the 60s till today.

 

4 February

The Darlington Strings - Providing fine music for all occasions, especially during your stay within the park.

 

11 February

Top Gear - 50s rock ’n’ roll and country tunes.

 

18 February

Toowoomba Vocal Ensemble - Be entertained by a variety of music – think Manhattan Transfer or Idea of North. Add a dash of Michael Jackson, Josh Gorban and Enrico Morricone then smooth it all out with Norah Jones and Sting.

Women In Harmony - A multicultural choir, dedicated to promoting harmony, understanding, acceptance and friendship through singing. 

 

25 February

High Altitude Harmony - Enjoy lullabies, gospel and rock from groups such as the Beatles, Beach Boys and The Drifters through to Queen.

Zephyr Project - The Zephyr Project brings a high energy variety of tunes with lashings of jazz, swing & good old rock ’n' roll.

 

14 January

Vavachi Jazz & Swing - Featuring Rhydian Lewis with a 4 piece band, piano/keys, drums, bass guitar and live vocals.

 

21 January

Killin Time - Join Andrew Kucks, Phillip Vellacott & Jared & Nathan Walmsley for a rare Toowoomba show, as they play popular songs from 25 years of experiences at the Gympie Music Muster.

 

28 January

Slow Train Coming - Their influences include rock, pop, blues, jazz, soul and Memphis.

 

4 February

Toowoomba Municipal Band - Music of all styles from the traditional to the modern, classic to rock and serious to comedy.

 

11 February

Jazzy Chats - Mix of jazz, swing and contemporary rock with a big band.

 

18 February

Jim Miller Big Band - Big band music featuring arrangements from Glenn Miller, Count Basie and Duke Ellington. The band has a Dixieland section which will play one group of songs.

 

25 February

2 Timing - Songs from the 1950s to current popular hits including rock 'n' roll, pop, country, swing and European. Two dance floors will be provided for the public to dance away the afternoon.

7 January

Whisky Mac - Performing a diverse range of folk music, celtic, Irish, Scottish and Australian. They also have an extensive repertoire of popular music from the 50s to 90s with rock ‘n’ roll, country, country rock, ballads, Latin and calypso.

 

14 January

Blue Room Blues - Featuring a wide variety of material from the blues greats as well as original songs, this band is not to be missed.

 

21 January

Timeless - Just like the name, the music is timeless, soothing and relaxing.

 

28 January

Let's Dance Band - This two-piece group will entertain you with scintillating melodies from the 60’s and 70’s. Dance away the afternoon on our extra large dance floor.

 

4 February

Around the corner - Enjoy up-tempo, foot-tapping Irish folk songs played on acoustic guitars, the mandolin, bodhran (Irish drum) and bass guitar.

 

11 February

Paul Edwards Quartet- Playing a broad range from jazz through to blues, cabaret and fusion.

 

18 February

Flashback - Songs spanning from Elvis to Jonny Cash, Credence to the Beatles, plus a sprinkling of country greats.

 

25 February

Undercover - Playing the hits from the sixties through to the nineties and their motto is: “We keep the hits coming!”.

The Webb Family Band - Peter, Isaac & James on accordion, flute & cello respectively playing folk/retro classics to the audience.

 

14 January

The Pioneers - The Pioneers are a multi-instrumental duo performing a wide variety of songs and tunes covering folk, celtic, country & bush Ballads.

 

21 January

Broxburn Music Club of Pittsworth - A variety of music ranging from bush ballads, country and alternative styles.

 

28 January

Harry & Speed - Enjoy an afternoon of all country favourites from 50’s to 90’s along with requests.

 

4 February

Ronnie & Johnny - Husband and wife duo performing middle of the road, easy listening music with a country flavour.

 

11 February

Jungle Detour - A vibrant mix of classical hits and modern music, spiced with some of their original songs.

 

18 February

Broxburn Music Club of Pittsworth - Variety of music ranging from bush ballads, country and alternative styles.

 

25 February

Yakety Saxes - Playing pop tunes along with big band, swing and Dixieland jazz standards. Swings from the 50s to the 90s with hits from Bill Haley, Billy Joel, Elvis Presley, ABBA, Elton John and Michael Jackson.

Time of program: 3pm - 6pm

Band: Top Gear

This four piece group will delight with fifties rock ‘n’ roll and country tunes.

Date: February 4

Location: Centenary Park

Time of program: 10am - 1pm

Band: Slow Train Coming

Established last century, this band has performed over 600 live shows at venues across Southern Queensland. Their influences include rock, pop blues, jazz, soul and Memphis. They are a cover band that plays popular hits from the last four decades.

Location: Mocatta Street by the war memorial

Time of program: Noon - 3pm

Band: Black Velvet Quartet

Toe tapping warm & fuzzy jazz to keep the sun shining & the mood light & happy! African born Deeny Kohler-Caporale showcases a mix of Latin and traditional jazz numbers accompanied by Carmelo Lanzafame on double bass, Graham Muller on keyboard & Neville Jess on drums.

Band: Tux

Greg Bird Entertainment and Promotions, has brought together some of Toowoomba’s finest musicians; Alison Bryant- piano, Camilo Lanzafami- bass, Mark Nuss- drums, Al Skerman – trumpet, Mal Gaydon- trombone, Paul Hendon – sax and Greg Bird – vocalist. Swing jazz to popular rock.

Band: Killin Time

They play the hits from the sixties through to the nineties and their motto is: “We keep the hits coming!”.UnderCover consists of Martin Paroz on lead vocals and harmonies, Gayle Dixon on lead vocals and harmonies and Ian Dixon on drums.
