Summer Tunes 2019 schedule

Summer Tunes logo

Our Summer Tunes program provides free, live music at popular parks in the Toowoomba region and is a great way to relax with friends and family. Concerts feature local musicians from a variety of music genres and can be enjoyed on weekends throughout January and February. Bring some snacks, a picnic blanket and a hat and settle in for some downtime!

It also provides a great opportunity to view the summer blooms in these parks.

As these are all outdoor events, they are subject to weather conditions.

 

Toowoomba Summer Tunes (Sunday's during January and February)

  • The Alison Bryant Quartet - The Alison Bryant Quartet features drums, piano, vocals and bass producing a wide range of music from jazz to swing jazz, Latin and rock.
  • Katrina from Sparkles Face Painting will be available to provide wonderful face painting for children to enjoy.

The Hobsons - The Hobsons are a family band based in Highfields featuring Gerard, Judy and Georgia Hobson. The Hobsons have released a debut album 'Don’t Look Back', featuring original catchy music mixed with lyrics that are about real subjects.

 

13 January

Vavachi Jazz & Swing - Featuring Rhydian Lewis with a 4 piece-band, piano/keys, drums, bass guitar and live vocals.

 

20 January

Killin Time - Join Andrew Kucks, Phillip Vellacott & Jared & Nathan Walmsley for a rare Toowoomba show, as they play popular songs from 25 years of experiences at the Gympie Music Muster.

 

3 February

Toowoomba Municipal Band - The 100-year-old-plus Toowoomba Municipal Brass Band plays music of all styles from the traditional to the modern, classic to rock and serious to comedy.

 

10 February

Slow train coming - Think of a five-piece band with horns! Established last century, this band has performed over 600 live shows at venues across Southern Queensland. They’re a cover band that plays popular hits from the last four decades with influences including rock, pop, blues, jazz, soul and Memphis.

 

17 February

2 Timing - Together as '2 Timing', Cathy and Walter offer a massive repertoire of songs from the 1950s to current popular hits including rock ‘n’ roll, pop, country, swing and European. '2 Timing' love singing and entertaining an audience and their enthusiasm is contagious.

 

24 February

Jim Miller Big Band - The Jim Miller Big Band was founded by Jim (1926 – 2012) and now continues performing many of the tunes he loved from the Big Band era. Included are original arrangements of popular songs from Big Band Leaders such as Glen Miller, Duke Ellington and Count Basie. The band is composed of up to 16 musicians and includes both male and female vocalists.

Location: Shade shelter area

Time of program: Noon to 3pm

Theme: Picnic pleasures

 

6 January

Let's Dance Band - This two-piece group, comprising of Frank on drums and Fortunato on keyboard & vocals, will entertain you with scintillating melodies from the 60’s and 70’s. Dance floors will be provided for the public to dance away the afternoon.

 

13 January

Blue Room Blues - Guaranteed to blow your blues away, Blue Room Blues consistently delivers the goods. With years of live performing experience, these guys really know how to play to their audience! Featuring a wide variety of material from the blues greats as well as original songs, this band is not to be missed.

 

20 January

Paul Edwards Quartet - This four-piece band plays a broad range from jazz through to blues, cabaret and fusion. The talented group of experienced and versatile musicians will surprise and delight with well-loved tunes on a summer’s day in the park.

 

3 February

Johnny Jump Up - Johnny Jump Up features Toowoomba’s own little piece of Ireland. Their music ranges from traditional to classic irish songs, with the odd reel or jig thrown into the mix, as well as tempo, foot tapping sing along irish folk songs. Instruments used are acoustic guitars, mandolin bodhran (Irish drum) and bass guitar.

 

10 February

Timeless - This popular four piece group features guitar, keyboard, saxophone, drums and vocals. Just like the name, the music is timeless, soothing and relaxing.

 

17 February

UnderCover - UnderCover produce great live music in combination with quality backing tracks. Featuring hits from the 60’s through to the 90’s, UnderCover’s motto is: “We keep the hits coming!” UnderCover consists of Martin Paroz on lead vocals and harmonies, Gayle Dixon on lead vocals and harmonies and Ian Dixon on drums.

 

24 February

Flashback - Appealing to a wide audience, Flashback will perform a huge selection of songs spanning from Elvis to Jonny Cash, Credence to the Beatles, plus a sprinkling of country greats. You’ll be entertained by one of Toowoomba’s most popular bands.

Sax Plus - Three sax players team up with a keyboardist and vocalists to deliver pop tunes along with big band, swing and Dixieland jazz standards. Swings from the 50’s to the 90’s with hits from Bill Haley, Billy Joel, Elvis Presley, ABBA, Elton John and Michael Jackson.

 

Regional Summer Tunes (Sunday's during February)

Date: 24 February

Location: Cambooya Recreation Grounds, Lucy Street

Time of program: 3pm - 6pm

Band: Black Velvet Quartet

Toe tapping warm and fuzzy jazz to keep the sun shining and the mood light and happy! African born Deeny Kohler-Caporale showcases a mix of Latin and traditional jazz numbers accompanied by Carmelo Lanzafame on double bass, Graham Muller on keyboard and Neville Jess on drums.

Date: 10 February

Location: Cecil Plains Homestead on the Condamine River - in case of rainy weather, the event will be moved into Cecil Plains Memorial Hall, 41 Geraghty Street, Cecil Plains.

Time of program: 10am - 1.30pm

Band: Tux

Greg Bird Entertainment and Promotions has brought together some of Toowoomba’s finest musicians to bring you entertainment ranging from swing jazz to popular rock. Featuring Bernard Boserio on piano, Camilo Lanzafami on bass, Mark Nuss on drums, Al Skerman on trumpet, Mal Gaydon on trombone, Paul Hendon on sax and Greg Bird as vocalist.

Location: Centenary Park, Curnow Street

Band: Killin Time
