We are embarking on an important journey towards reconciliation and have begun work on our first Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). We have chosen the Innovate RAP which outlines actions for achieving the organisation’s vision for reconciliation and Black Wattle Professional Services have been engaged to help develop our Reconciliation Action Plan.

At its heart, reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples, for the benefit of all Australians.

The Reconciliation framework is based and measured on five dimensions:

  • historical acceptance
  • race relations
  • equality and equity
  • institutional integrity
  • unity.

The development, adoption and implementation of a Reconciliation Action Plan is an important action that we can take on the journey of reconciliation.

A Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) outlines actions that work towards achieving our unique vision for reconciliation. The RAP focuses on developing and strengthening relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, engaging staff and stakeholders in reconciliation and the development and piloting of innovative strategies to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Reconciliation Working Group

The Reconciliation Working Group was formed in late 2023 to enable us to contribute to reconciliation by:

  • building and encouraging relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, communities, organisations, and the broader Toowoomba Region.
  • fostering and embedding respect for the world’s longest surviving cultures and communities; and
  • developing opportunities within Council to improve socio-economic outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.

Community group consultation sessions

A second round of consultation sessions are available as part of the development of our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) for the Toowoomba Region. Following the success and input received from the community in March, feedback has been considered and where appropriate, incorporated into the RAP.

As we continue to move forward on this journey, members of the community are invited to attend one of the following sessions. These sessions will provide an update on the learnings identified throughout the first round of consultation, as well as key points and deliverables proposed within the RAP.

  • Wednesday, 25 June: 1pm to 3pm - Community Rooms, City Library, 155 Herries St, Toowoomba
  • Thursday, 26 June: 1pm to 3pm - Digital Hub Meeting room, Oakey Library, 62-64 Campbell Street, Oakey
