We have works planned across Highfields for the first half of 2024. Detour signage will be in place for all projects. All efforts are being undertaken to minimise the overall impact to the community. All dates are weather and construction conditions permitting.
We will be relocating electrical and water services as part of early works for the Central Highfields Intersections project.
Impacts: Deep excavations are needed and during this time there will be temporary staged road closures at the intersections of:
A temporary connection road will be constructed on the northern side of Highfields Road to maintain local connections. This will be used in conjunction with temporary detours using two options:
As part of these works it is expected there will be short term changes to traffic conditions at the intersections of Highfields Road and Lauder Drive, and Highfields Road and Rogers Drive, such as temporary lane closures and detours. More details will be provided ahead of these possible changes.
Access to businesses and residential properties, Highfields Cultural Centre, Aquatic Centre, and Library/ Customer Service Centre will be maintained via O’Brien Road, Balmoral Road and Rogers Drive.
Start date: February 2024
Target end date: Council's work will finish July 2024, but Energy Qld will complete high-voltage underground powerline works later in the year.
This work is early works for planned upgrades for the Highfields/ Kratzke/ O'Brien roads intersections.

Based on the current forecasts, this construction work is expected to commence in the first half of 2026. This date is subject to change based on Council’s annual budget approvals and other priorities.

Major works on Toowoomba Regional Council’s Kuhls Road rehabilitation project in Highfields are now complete, with the section between Peacehaven Botanic Park and Cawdor Road re-opened to traffic.
The project has rehabilitated a 1.25km section of Kuhls Road from Bunya View Drive to Cawdor Road.
The works included rehabilitating road pavement, drainage improvements, constructing a concrete footpath from Peacehaven Botanic Park and installing 13 additional car parks fronting Peacehaven Botanic Park.
The last stage of this project (from Peacehaven Park to Cawdor Road) will occur between April and June 2024.
Start date: August 2023
Target completion date: Completed July 2024
As part of the 2022 Flood Recovery Program, works are required to repair/replace culverts that were damaged in the 2021/22 flood event.

Significant works are required to repair a culvert on Woolmer Road, approximately 130m west of Parkway Drive.
Impacts: Closure in place at the culvert location. Detours will be in place.
Start date: Early 2024 (Date to be confirmed)
Target completion date: Expected 12 weeks of work
Works are required to repair a culvert on Cawdor Drive, approximately 40m south of Franke Road.
Impacts: Road closure in place at the culvert location. Detours will be in place. Access to residential properties will always be maintained.
Start date: Early July ( works will occur after Woolmer Road works)
Target completion date: Expected 8 weeks of work
