This project continues the replacement of the 28km long prestressed concrete raw water main from the Pechey reservoirs to the Mt Kynoch Water Treatment Plant over several years. The new pipeline will provide increased flow capacity.
Constructed in the 1960s, increasing numbers of pipe joint failures and an unfavourable pipe condition assessment has required action to replace the main to ensure the security of the Toowoomba Bulk Water Supply network.
In 2022/23, $2.1 million has been allocated to the project.
2018 - replacement of an initial 800m long section was completed in October 2018
2019 - replacement of Stage 1 over a 1.3km long section completed
2020 - replacement of Stages 1A, 2 and 2A, including approximately 6.1km of pipeline replacement in Cabarlah and Highfields
2021 - works currently under construction in stages 3 and 4, which include approximately 10km of pipeline replacement works between Hampton and Highfields, three major under bores to the New England Highway and valve interconnection works.
