Staff looking at building plans

Information 010

Information 041

When purchasing a property or looking to do more work to your property, it’s a good idea to check what buildings and structures are approved on your property. Due to the introduction of the Building Act 1975, we may not have records of any buildings or structures built before this date.

Property searches

Using the property search form, there are a number of different searches you can request, with each searchable to provide different information. The property search form will outline what each search contains and what is best for your needs. You can use either an online or PDF form:

Building plan search

If you want to obtain building plans of your property, you can submit an online Approved plans for buildings and structures form. Our staff will investigate what is available for your property, retrieve any files from archives if required, and contact you to advise of the availability and relevant fee.

Lodging an online search request

A property search request can easily be submitted and paid for using our online customer service portal. The portal allows you to track the status and reference number for all search requests that you submit, and you’ll receive email confirmation upon submission.

Depending on the nature of the search, you can obtain records regarding, but not limited to, all approvals issued for a property, builders details, inspections undertaken, copies of certificates issued or outstanding infrastructure charges. This can be lodged through an Online Property Certificate request. You can also obtain copies of building plans or drainage plans via the Online Customer Requests and you do not need to be a Registered User to request these.

How to use the online portal

To use the online portal, you are required to register as a user. This is a one-time process and does not cost anything, however it can take up to a maximum of 2 working days to process your registration when initially signing up.

To become a registered user:

  • In the online customer service portal, click the ‘Register’ link at the top right hand side of the screen;
  • Complete the ‘New user registration’ online form and [Submit]. There are three pages to the form – the last will prompt you to set a password;
  • Council staff will verify your details and enable your account. You will receive an email when your login account is ready for use (allow a maximum of 2 working days for processing).

Please note that at this time any property search without a fixed fee e.g. price on application, cannot be lodged through this online portal. In these instances, Council would encourage you to use the other online property search form which can be found in the Related Documents below.

All information supplied on or with the application forms may be disclosed publicly in accordance with the Right to Information Act 2009, Evidence Act 1977, Planning Act 2016 and Planning Regulation 2017.
